Gretel Underwood

Hand-woven cotton chenille throws made exclusively in Santa Fe by Gretel Underwood. All the colors are custom-dyed for the throws, and Gretel's variety and unusual use of color is her trademark. She apprenticed here and has been weaving in Santa Fe for 22 years. Her weavings incorporate ideas she finds in her favorite type of weavings found in Guatemala, Mexico and Bolivia. Each piece is unique and one-of-a-kind.

This design is "Todos Santos," bursting with the colors of the western highlands of Guatemala. Hand-woven exclusively in Santa Fe, this piece features the classic checkers pattern of blues and oranges.

The lap throw is 39" wide x 56" long and includes almost a foot of fringe at either end. The fringe is a combination of yarns and ribbons. Price is $660.

This "Tampico" throw is based on the old Bolivian stripe pattern, with custom-dyed chenille hand-woven in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
